Asian Pacific Carrier Selects mdis eyeD 360 Monitor for New Service Rollout

ECOC Conference, VIENNA, AUSTRIA, – September 21, 2009 – mdi (Monitoring Division Inc.), the leader in real-time network monitoring and intelligence, announced today it has received orders for commercial deployment of its groundbreaking ‘eyeD 360’ network monitor from Optus, the division of SingTel in Australia. As part of the qualification process, mdi is now an approved supplier to SingTel, receiving accelerated acceptance due to the system’s uniqueness in the industry. “The mdi tool was the only device to easily and accurately measure in-band OSNR. It also provided unprecedented visibility into our network by monitoring fiber characteristics in-service.” explained Scott Robertson, technical specialist for data services engineering at Optus, who led the evaluation of mdi’s eyeD 360.

mdi is exhibiting its systems and publishing a case study on the carrier’s evaluation experience during the European Conference on Communications (ECOC 2009) this week in Vienna, Austria. During the event, mdi is launching a single-port version of its four-in-one impairment monitor to meet demand in the Test & Measurement market for multi-purpose platforms. The single-port eyeD 360 offers four times the functionality, at one quarter the price of traditional dedicated systems. It measures power level, OSNR (optical signal-tonoise ratio), CD(chromatic dispersion) and PMD (polarization mode dispersion). Prospects include carrier and OEM labs, Government installations and Research & Education networks.

“This one-port device is also going to help engineers in laboratories and in the field to study complex effects, such as PMD, which could not be done before on live traffic,” stated Olivier Jerphagnon, mdi VP of Marketing and Business Development. To facilitate access to its unique product, mdi also announced the appointment of Infractive as its first European Master Distributor. Headquartered in Paris, Infractive will focus on joint sales and support in France, Spain, Portugal and Italy. "mdi provides a much needed capability to carriers, OEMs, network engineers and technicians," stated Mathieu Husson, Infractive Managing Director. "Our customers see great value in mdi's technology and products, and we are excited to work with mdi to speed the availability of its monitoring products and services in our markets."

mdi has been invited to present on “Optical Performance Monitoring for Intelligent Networks” at this week’s ECOC exhibition and conference at 9:30am on Thursday, September 24. Trevor Anderson, mdi CTO, will also present a paper co-authored with Orange Labs. Customer prospects and press wishing to meet with mdi on the ECOC show floor can find company representatives at Stand 047 in Hall XL, where a live demonstration of the eyeD 360’s full capabilities will be on view. Meetings can be scheduled at www.monitoringdivision.com or by emailing Olivier.jerphagnon@monitoringdivision.com.

About mdi
mdi was created to fill critical gaps in network diagnostics for carriers migrating from SONET to WDM. mdi’s in service monitoring software is the first to provide real-time insight into new and upgraded fiber networks, and lays the groundwork for smart networks. The company’s tools let telecom systems vendors, carriers and technicians quickly and cost-effectively characterize fiber assets in 10G, 40G and 100G networks, easily find impairments, and continuously manage high-speed networks. Founded in 2007, mdi (Monitoring Division, Inc.)has offices in Sunnyvale, California and Melbourne, Australia. For more information, visit www.monitoringdivision.com.
